Avoid These Mistakes

Over the years we have worked with many couples and some have made mistakes. Some of the mistakes were unique to them and some mistakes were common among the couples.

So we have rounded them off to 8 of the most common ones we see.

1 Not hiring same company to take pictures & video

It’s not new in the Wedding Industry for photographers and videographers to be fighting and competing during the course of the event. They can argue about blocking each other when both are interested in a similar angle, or fight over who is spending how much time with the bride and the groom etc. As a studio with both photography and cinematography, we can understand both sides. The solution is simple and starts with the realization that client happiness is the only thing that matters that day.

Here is a quick summary of why you should hire a company that does both video and pictures,

  1. Accountability – Hiring one company makes that company 100% responsible for the final results. They is not anyone to blame for missed shots, missed angles, miscommunication and other other potential issues. Guys from the same company have a strong working relationship and are always supportive of one another and will make sure that everyone is in position for major events of the wedding.
  2. Better workflow, communication and positioning – In our company we use walkie-talkies to communicate during the course of the wedding. Everyone will be on the same channel such that if one of us alerts us of anything we all get the message and we get in position. If the photo team wants to do something creative on the dance floor they communicate using the walkie system so that the videographers are aware and are grabbing filler shots to cover up for ruined shots the time the photography team will be on the dance floor. The final product will be perfect! Sometimes they is no need to even alert others on the walkies because we work together every time so we are able to anticipate one’s next move and positioning. Think of it like this, would you hire a band that is working together for the first time on your wedding?
  3. Less admin work – Booking the same company will save you a lot of time and errands. You know that that one meeting you are attending and that one wedding contract you are signing is for both photography and videography and you are done.
  4. Relatively cheaper packages – While price might not be your number one determining factor when choosing a photography and videography company it won’t hurt to save up some funds for something else. Separate packages for photography and videography are definitely more expensive as compared to getting a package with both from the same company.

2 LAST MINUTE BOOKING

As soon as your wedding venue and date is confirmed, the next thing on your list should be securing the services of a photography and videography company. We take bookings even a year in advance so if you wait until a few months you will be disappointed to find out that we have been booked on your day already. The same applies to your other preferred wedding vendors.

"It’s a rule of thumb that the best get booked first and way in advance.

3 NOT INCLUDING TOSS ITEMS

Whether it’s in your group photos, during your first dance or your grand exit, toss items add that extra touch to your photos.  Confetti, flower petals, rice, the list can go on and on!

"These pictures radiate bliss, excitement and results in genuine smiles and laughter from you and your guests.

4 NOT HIRING PROFESSIONALS

First regret of all is not hiring a professional team to cover your wedding. For most couples cost plays a big role in not hiring a professional, but if you take the advice we gave on point 1 you might afford a professional company like us. However, we are not the cheapest in the market but you will get value for your money. The advantage of hiring a professional team is they have experience with weddings, you don’t have to be guiding them. You will also enjoy a sense of security after the wedding knowing that being professionals they have multiple ways of ensuring that they do not lose your wedding before they hand it over to you.

"At Profound Photography we follow a system to backup our clients' footage.

5 NOT SCHEDULING ENOUGH TIME FOR FILMING

During the time when you are working on your wedding day timeline, some couples tend to forget to check with their photographers how much time they might need to take pictures and video during the different sections of the day. If you have a wedding planner they often know how to go about this and most of the times they will contact us to cross check if we have gotten the time we need. Failure to schedule enough time will cause too much pressure for both your photography team and yourselves on the wedding day. You might end up losing some of the pictures and video since your photography team might not be able to negotiate for more time on the day of the wedding.

"It’s very crucial that you discuss your wedding timeline with your photography team before it is approved.

6 NOT SCHEDULING ENOUGH TIME FOR MAKE UP AND HAIR

Delays in make-up and hair can set the whole wedding day behind. This will have an impact on all other service providers including photography and video team. A lot of our brides love to have us capture them during the prep time in their morning gowns with the other girls but we have been to weddings where we failed to do this because of time. The bride would have undermined how much time would be needed for makeup and styling which can go on to delay with hours. Now you can imagine the pressure your make up artist will be feeling, it will definitely have a negative impact on her or his work.

"Just like in the previous point, check with your make up artist and hairstylist how much time they both need before the timeline is approved.

7 NOT HAVING AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT/PREWEDDING SHOOT

Among other reasons, having a prewedding photoshoot before your wedding day makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera, you get to know how it is to work with your wedding photographers they also get to learn more about you as a couple what you are comfortable with and what you are not etc. We get to teach most of our poses to couples during a prewedding shoot such that we do minimal directing and guiding on the wedding day hence saving a lot of time.

"It’s also an opportunity for you to book for your trial make up and hair and see how it comes out on camera.

Thank you for reading this post and we hope to be part of your big day.
